What This Is

Simon Oh’s personal academic website. A Jekyll site hosted on GitHub Pages.

Tech Stack

• Jekyll Now (v1.2.0) — static site generator, forked from barryclark/jekyll-now
• GitHub Pages — builds and serves the site at sangmino.github.io
• Squarespace DNS — redirects sangmino.net to sangmino.github.io
• Google Analytics — GA4 tag G-8KQDFV4NFZ
• Font Awesome 6 — icons throughout

Hosting Flow

Push to master → GitHub Pages builds → live at sangmino.github.io
                                     → sangmino.net (Squarespace redirect)

Structure

• Root .html files are individual pages (research, teaching, notebook, etc.)
• _layouts/ — default.html (main wrapper), post.html, page.html
• _includes/ — meta.html, analytics.html, svg-icons.html
• _sass/ — SCSS partials imported by style.scss
• images/ — static assets
• recommendations/ — travel, people, YouTube recommendation pages
• Documents/ — hosted files (PDFs, etc.)

Conventions

• All pages use layout: default in frontmatter
• No build step beyond Jekyll — just push HTML to master
• Pages are plain HTML with minimal templating (no JS frameworks)
• Font Awesome <i class="fas fa-link"></i> for external link icons
• Internal links use /path in templates, or absolute URLs in plain HTML

When Editing

• Push to master to deploy (GitHub Pages builds automatically)
• No PR workflow — it’s a personal site, push directly
• Most changes are simple HTML edits
